Specification for Bullet Resistant Enclosure


PART I GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE

A. The work required includes furnishing  a complete engineered modular bullet resistant enclosure of the sizes and quantities indicated on the project drawings.
B. The bullet resistant guard enclosures shall be Underwriters Laboratories listed and bear a U.L.label for the level 4 ballistic threat as per Standard of Safety UL752 Bullet resistant equipment.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Provide manufacturer's specifications, data, and other information which substantiates compliance with the specified performance requirements.
B. Provide approval drawings that indicate sizes, details and installation procedures for the bullet resistant assemblies.

PART II PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 BULLET RESISTANT GUARD ENCLOSURE COMPONENTS

A. General

1. All opaque bullet resistant materials shall be manufactured from Balistex(R) ULŪ Listed bullet resistant steel in accordance with ULŪ 752.

2. All glazing shall be provided by the enclosure system manufacturer and comply with the specified ballistic performance.

B. Components

1. Modular wall panels shall be ULŪ Listed Balistex (R) 244P. The wall panels shall be designed for jobsite assembly and capability of disassembly for future use in another location.

  c. The manufacturer for the enclosure shall provide panel-panels fasteners. Anchorage to the footing or pad at the site shall be provided by the installer.


2. Modular ceiling panels shall be ULŪ Listed Balistex (R) 244P. The panels shall be designed to self supporting and for jobsite assembly with capability of disassembly for future use in another location.

  d. For exterior applications the ceiling panels shale be design to provide proper water drainage.
  e. Where indicated on the project drawings, the manufacture will provide penetration and proper bullet resistant shrouds to product the equipment and enclosure from ballistic threat.

3. Vision windows as indicated on the drawings shall be the ULŪ Listed GHV type design.
  a. The framing shall be an integral part of the modular wall assembly and be ULŪ listed for the specified ballistic level.
  b. The framing shall have welded corners and secure glazing stops.
  c. The manufacturer of the assembly shall provide all glazing accessories to install the glazing. Compatible caulking, if required is to be provided by the enclosure installer.
  d. the finish of the frames shall be prime painted.

4. Deal trays and transaction devices if indicated on the project drawings shall be provided by the enclosure manufacturer to ensure the ballistic integrity of the enclosure.
  a. Fixed deal trays, if indicated on the drawings shall be stainless steel and be of the design to maintain the specified ballistic level.
  b. Sliding deal trays, if indicated on the drawings shall be stainless steel and be off the design to maintain the specified ballistic level. An intercom system shall be included with the sliding deal trays to afford communication between the enclosure and the public area.







5. Bullet resistant doors as indicated on the drawings shall Model BRDV-4-3684, ULŪ Listed level 4.
  a. The door panels shall be manufactured straight, true and square.
  b. Door edges shall be welded and ground smooth.
  c. The door panels shall be stiffeners and insulated. The top and bottom of the door panels shall;; be closed with a steel channel's and welded into  place.
  d. The door shall be manufactured for installation of bullet resistant glazing to maintain the specified ballistic level.
  e. The finish of the product shall be prime painted.
  f. The door framing shall be engineered to engage the modular wall assembly and be ULŪ listed for the specified ballistic level.
  g. The manufacture shall provide the standard hardware package of :
  Mortise lockset
  Door closure
  Continuous hinge
  Door silencers
  Threshold/saddle
  Weatherstripping

4. Bullet resistant clear glazing shall be provided by the enclosure manufacturer to ensure the ballistic integrity of the enclosure.

PART III EXECUTION

3.1 SITE WORK

A. The installation of the modular enclosure shall be in accordance with the manufacturers written instructions.

B. Immediately after installation, sand smoothly any scratched area of the enclosure, apply a prime coat and touch of finish coat of paint.

C. Check and re-adjust finish hardware items to their proper operation conditions.
