SPECIFICATION FOR BULLET RESISTANT DOORS

PART 1  GENERAL

1.1 Scope of Work
A. The work required for this section includes furnishing  and installing the bullet resistant door and frame  assemblies of the sizes, types and quantities indicated  in the project drawings.
B. The bullet resistant door, frame, accessories and  hardware shall be provided such that the entire  assembly be U.L. Listed and bear a U.L. Label for the  ______(specify ballistic threat level)______as defined  by the Standard of Safety ULŪ 752 bullet resistant  equipment.

1.2 Approval Drawings
A. The manufacturer shall provide the owner with approval  drawings that sufficiently indicate sizes, details and  installation procedures for the bullet resistant door  and frame assemblies required.

PART II PRODUCTS

2.1 Bullet Resistant Door Panels
A. Materials - All bullet resistant doors will be  manufactured from Balistex(R)______ (see chart for  types which correspond to the specified ballistic  level)______steels in accordance with ULŪ 752.
B. Construction -
  1. The door panels shall be manufactured straight,    true and square.
  2. Door edges shall be continuously welded and ground    smooth.
  3. The door panels shall be made with 12 gauge    minimum door stiffeners 12" o.c.
  4. Top and bottom of all bullet resisting doors shall    be closed with minimum 12 gauge channel and welded    in place.
  5. Door finish shall be prime painted. (Note to    architect/specifier; NBP produces doors that can    have wood veneer, stainless steel or finish    painted).
  6. Door manufacturer shall prepare and provide the    appropriate hardware so as to retain the specified    U.L. Listed ballistic rating.
  7. The doors shall be prepared to accept U.L. Listed    bullet resistant (specify glass type)________.    Glazing to be provided by the door manufacturer.



2.2 Bullet Resistant Door Frames
A. Materials - All resistant door frames shall be of  Balistex(R) bullet resistant steel.
B. Construction -
  1. All bullet resistant frames will be formed    straight and true to the sizes indicated on the    project drawings.
  2. The frame design shall be (architect/specifier    select type: double rabbet...single rabbet...clamp    on type...offset), and be provided by the bullet    resistant door manufacturer.
  3. Each frame will include a temporary spreader which    shall be removable upon installation.
  4. Each door frame shall include eight masonry "T"    anchors, masonry strap anchors or expansion bolt    preparation (please specify anchor type).

2.3 Hardware for bullet resistant doors and frames. NOTE: the  door and frame manufacturer shall prepare the door and frame  for the specified hardware to ensure ballistic integrity.
  1. Lockset door manufacturer shall provide a heavy    duty mortise lockset function FO7.  Lockset shall    have rigid exterior (threat side) knob, open from    exterior by a key, knob on inside shall activate    the latchbolt.
  2. Hinge:  door manufacturer shall provide a model    NBCH-P-L24 hinge in accordance with the specified    ballistic level.
  3. Closer:  door manufacturer shall prepare and    provide door and frame assembly with a surface    mount closer Yale 406SB or equal.
  4. Door silencers:  provide three per door frame

Optional Hardware.......
  - Threshold: provide a Dorbin 267AV threshold or    equal for field installation.
  - Weather-stripping: provide and factory prepare    Pemko #319AN weather-stripping or approved equal.
  - Electric strike:  door manufacturer shall prepare    door and frame to provide a Folger Adams 310-2    electric strike xUS4x24VAC
  - Insulation: door shall be insulated with rigid    insulation.


PART III  EXECUTION

3.1 Installation
A. Install all bullet resistant doors, frames and  accessories in accordance with the approved shop  drawings, manufacturer's date and as herein specified.
3.2 Adjust and Clean
A. Immediately after erection, sand smoothly any rusted or  damaged areas of the prime coat and apply touch up of  compatible air drying primer.
B. Check and re-adjust operating finish hardware items,  leaving bullet resistant door and frames in complete  and proper operating condition.
